Privacy policy
Effective October 7, 2026
This policy explains what information the Simpatico apps for iPhone and Android and the Simpatico service collect, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. Simpatico is operated by Restathend LLC (“we”, “us”). If anything here is unclear, email support@simpaticoapp.com.
1. The short version
- Simpatico is a shared calendar for two people. What you connect or create is shown to you and to the one partner you pair with.
- Your calendars are only read. Simpatico never creates, changes or deletes events in Google Calendar or any other calendar you connect.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, track you across apps or websites, or use your data to train AI models. The apps contain no analytics or advertising SDKs.
- You can delete your account and data at any time in the app: Settings, then Delete account. See Delete your account.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, we receive your name, email address and, from Google, a link to your profile picture. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to share only a private relay email address, and Apple sends your name only the first time you sign in. We also store your chosen colour and time zone.
Calendars you connect
For each calendar you connect, we store its name and colour and the events on it: title, start and end time, time zone, whether it is all-day, location, description or notes, recurrence rules, reminders and whether the event is marked busy or free. When you sign in with Google, the main (primary) calendar of that account is connected during setup so it's ready to share; you can turn it off on the same screen or later in Settings, then Calendars. We only collect events from calendars that are connected. To keep them up to date we also store the access needed to read them: sign-in tokens for Google, an app-specific password for iCloud and other CalDAV servers, or the address of a calendar link. Details for each source are in section 5 and section 6.
Content you create in Simpatico
Shared plans, comments, lists and list items (with any notes, amounts, due dates and who they're assigned to), countdowns, special dates, date-night plans and ratings, answers to the daily question, questions you write for each other and their answers, nudges, notes, and reminders. We also keep a short activity history of changes in your shared calendar (for example “Sam added milk”), which powers the notifications you choose to receive.
Pairing and settings
Which account you are paired with, the temporary pairing code used to invite your partner, your notification preferences and quiet hours, and which of your partner's calendars you have hidden.
Device and sign-in information
- Push notifications: if you allow notifications, your device's push token, its platform (iOS or Android), an app installation identifier and the last time the app checked in.
- Sign-in sessions: a session token, and the IP address and app/browser user agent recorded when you signed in, to keep your account secure.
- Server logs: like any web service, our hosting provider processes IP addresses and request details when the app talks to our servers.
Purchases
If you buy Simpatico Plus, we receive a record of the purchase from Apple or Google through RevenueCat: the product, the store, whether it was a test purchase, and when it was bought, refunded or transferred. We never receive your card or payment details.
Camera
The camera is used only when you choose to scan your partner's invite QR code. The image is processed on your phone; nothing from the camera is stored or uploaded.
Support and crash details
If you email us, we receive your email and anything you include. If the app closes unexpectedly, it keeps the error details on your phone and offers you the option to share them with us; nothing is sent automatically.
What we don't collect
Location, contacts, photos, health or fitness data, browsing history, advertising identifiers and payment card details. The apps include no analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting services.
3. How we use it
- To show your calendars and your partner's together, find times you're both free, and keep everything in sync across both of your devices.
- To run the features you use: shared plans, lists, countdowns, special dates, the daily question, widgets and reminders.
- To send the notifications you turn on, such as reminders and “your partner changed plans” alerts.
- To unlock Simpatico Plus for both partners, restore it, and handle refunds and transfers.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, fix problems you report, and comply with the law.
4. Who can see your data
- Your partner. The calendars you connect, your events on them, and everything you create in your shared calendar are visible to the one person you pair with. Names of calendars you don't connect are never shown. Your daily-question answer is shown to your partner once you have both answered.
- Nobody else in the app. There are no public profiles, feeds or search.
- Our service providers, only to run the service (section 7).
- Authorities, only if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
- If Restathend LLC is ever involved in a merger or sale, user data may transfer to the new owner under this policy, and we will tell you before it is used under different terms.
We don't let our staff read your calendar data or content, except with your permission (for example, when you ask for help with a specific problem), when needed for security or abuse investigations, or when required by law.
5. Google user data
If you sign in with Google, Simpatico asks for your basic profile (name, email address and profile picture) and two read-only Google Calendar permissions:
calendar.calendarlist.readonly: to list the calendars on your Google account so you can choose which ones to share with your partner.calendar.events.readonly: to read the events on the calendars you connect (your main calendar is connected during setup, and you can turn it off), so they can be shown to you and your partner in Simpatico and used to find times you're both free.
Simpatico only reads this data. It never creates, changes or deletes events or calendars in your Google account, and it requests no write permission. Google Calendar data is used only to provide these visible calendar features. It is shown only to you and your paired partner, is never sold, is never used for advertising, retargeting or to build profiles, and is not used to train or improve artificial intelligence or machine learning models. It is not transferred to anyone else except the service providers that host Simpatico (section 7), and only as needed to provide the feature, for security, or to comply with the law.
Limited Use. Simpatico's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google sign-in tokens are stored encrypted. You can disconnect a Google calendar in Simpatico at any time (Settings, then Calendars), and you can remove Simpatico's access entirely at myaccount.google.com/permissions. When you delete your Simpatico account we also ask Google to revoke Simpatico's access.
6. Other calendar sources
Every source is read-only: Simpatico never adds, changes or deletes events in any calendar you connect.
- iCloud and other CalDAV servers (for example Fastmail or Nextcloud): you enter your username and an app-specific password (not your main password). The password is encrypted on our servers with AES-256-GCM, is used only to read the calendars you chose from that server, and is never shown to your partner or sent anywhere else. Removing the account in Simpatico deletes the stored password. You can also revoke the app-specific password with your provider at any time.
- Phone calendars: with your permission, the app reads the calendars on your phone that you pick (this is how Outlook, Yahoo and work calendars that are set up on your phone can be shared). Events from roughly one month ago to twelve months ahead on those calendars (title, time, location, notes, busy or free) are uploaded from your phone to Simpatico so your partner can see them. Calendars you don't pick are not read.
- Calendar links (ICS / webcal): we store the link you add and fetch it from our servers to read its events. Such links can work like a password, so we only use it to read that calendar.
- Outlook (Microsoft): connecting Outlook directly is not currently offered; use Phone calendars or a calendar link instead. If you connected an Outlook account directly in an earlier version, we read it with Microsoft's read-only calendar permission (
Calendars.Read) and store its sign-in tokens encrypted, under the same rules as Google.
7. Service providers
We use these companies to run Simpatico. They process data on our behalf and only for these purposes:
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting, database and request logs | Everything stored by the Simpatico service |
| Sign in with Google, Google Calendar, Android push delivery, Google Play purchases | Sign-in requests, push notification content, purchase details | |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, iPhone push delivery, App Store purchases | Sign-in requests, push notification content, purchase details |
| Expo (650 Industries) | Routing push notifications to Apple and Google | Your device's push token and the notification's title and text |
| RevenueCat | Verifying Simpatico Plus purchases and restores | Your Simpatico account ID and the store's purchase record |
Calendar providers you connect (Google, Apple iCloud, your CalDAV host, the publisher of a calendar link) receive our requests to read your calendars. Notification text can include your partner's name and a plan's title.
Simpatico is operated from the United States, and these providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
8. What we never do
- Sell or rent your personal information, or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Show ads, or use your data for advertising or to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- Use your calendars, content or Google user data to train AI or machine learning models.
- Write to, change or delete anything in the calendars you connect.
9. How long we keep data
- While your account exists, we keep your account, connected calendars and shared content so the app works.
- Disconnecting a calendar deletes its stored events right away. Removing an iCloud or CalDAV account deletes its stored password and calendars.
- Events deleted in the source calendar disappear from Simpatico at the next sync; a deletion marker stays until you disconnect that calendar or delete your account.
- Plans, comments and lists you delete in Simpatico are hidden right away. A deleted plan can be restored for 30 days; a deletion record is kept with your shared calendar so both phones stay in sync, and is erased when the shared calendar is deleted.
- Pairing codes expire after 48 hours. Push tokens are removed when you sign out.
- After you delete your account, your data is removed from our live database immediately and from our hosting provider's database backups within 30 days. Server logs are kept for a short time, typically days.
- Purchase records for Simpatico Plus are kept after account deletion, linked only to your former account ID, for accounting and tax and to handle refunds and purchases moved to another account.
- Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you, then deleted.
10. Deleting your data
Open Simpatico and go to Settings, then Delete account. It takes effect immediately. If you can't use the app, email support@simpaticoapp.com from the address on your account and we will delete it within 30 days. The Delete your account page explains exactly what is deleted and what is kept.
If your partner stays in your shared calendar, they keep the shared plans, lists, countdowns and comments you added (comments no longer show your name); your connected calendars and their events are removed from their view. If you were on your own, everything in your shared calendar is erased. You can also leave a shared calendar without deleting your account: Settings, then Leave shared calendar.
11. Security
All traffic between the apps and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Google sign-in tokens and CalDAV app-specific passwords are encrypted at rest. Sign-in on your phone is kept in the device's secure storage, and the app's offline copy of your data stays on your phone and is erased when you sign out. Access to production systems is limited to the people who run Simpatico. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
12. Your choices and rights
- Choose which calendars to connect, and disconnect them at any time.
- Turn each kind of notification on or off, and set quiet hours.
- Rename, recolour or turn off any of your connected calendars.
- Delete your account and data in the app at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing support@simpaticoapp.com. Depending on where you live (for example in the European Economic Area, the UK or California), you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Where the GDPR applies, we process your data to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract), for security and to prevent abuse (legitimate interests), and to meet legal obligations such as keeping purchase records.
13. Children
Simpatico is made for adults and is not directed to children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email support@simpaticoapp.com and we will delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
